“Fintech Day”, the most anticipated event of the fintech community, is approaching: importance of sustainable finance – on the rise

On Thursday, 8 February, the third “Fintech Day” conference will take place in Vilnius, attracting local and international experts. This year, the focus will be on open banking, next generation payments, financial innovation, the use of artificial intelligence in fintech and anti-money laundering, and more, according to a press release.

The conference is organized by “Rockit”, Centre for financial technology and sustainable innovation, and the global payment system “Mastercard”. For the first time, the President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda and the Minister of Finance Gintarė Skaistė will welcome the participants of the conference.

Representatives of institutions and businesses from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economics and innovation, also from central banks of Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia “Fintech Hub LT”, Association of Lithuanian Business Angels “LitBAN”, “Mastercard”, “Accenture”, “Oracle”, “Nordic Fintech Magazine”, “Invest Lithuania”, “Sorainen”, “EMBank”, “Amlyze”, “Ondato”, “Vilnius TechFusion”, “Facilization”, other start-ups, financial and legal advisors, and VC funds.

According to Lina Žemaitytė-Kirkman, Head of “Rockit”, this year’s conference programme is as strong as ever, and the event is expected to attract the largest number of participants to date.

“The Lithuanian fintech ecosystem is truly unique, as we are witnessing the intense collaboration between authorities, innovators and businesses willing and able to help each other. Such synthesis of different parties, together with the forward-looking market overseers and a balance between innovations and regulation, is driving the growth of the Lithuanian fintech sector”, says L. Žemaitytė-Kirkman.

More mature and stronger fintech hub – in the nearest future

According to the Deputy Minister of Finance Vaida Česnulevičiūtė-Markevičienė, who will also participate in one of the “Fintech Day’s” discussions, Lithuania has become a top fintech hub widely recognized for its innovative ecosystem and supportive regulatory framework.

“Over the last few years, Lithuania has seen a breakthrough in financial technology, and our country’s fintech ecosystem has already proven its worth, with an estimated one in ten European adults using its services. It is important not to lose momentum in the future, and the Ministry of Finance’s fintech guidelines for 2023-2028, developed together with partners, will enable further qualitative growth of the sector, and greater maturity and expansion of companies”, states V. Česnulevičiūtė-Markevičienė.

Supporting the growth of existing companies and attracting innovative companies, creating a pool of skilled talent and maintaining a low-risk environment remain the main objectives of the Lithuanian fintech sector in the coming years. The Deputy Minister also emphasized the value of events like “Fintech Day” in bringing together the financial sector and regulators, fostering understanding and promoting innovation through open and honest dialogue that drive progress in the industry.

The 2024 “Fintech Day” will take place on 8 February live at the “Vaidilos” theater (A. Jakšto str. 9, Vilnius), also live on “Youtube”.
